Sorry it has taken so long to get back at this journal writing. The first few months of this new government and society setup has been very busy while resolving all the minor issues. At the end of my last entry, I mentioned that my wife was calling me. Her name is Cecillia, and she is 23 year old. Together, we live on a large farm which we inherited from Cecillia's father, and I hold a position in the
senate, which I inherited from my father. We are lucky that we are both members of the patrician class because we fell in love with each other, and if one of us was a plebian, our marriage would not be legal.
Cecilia's role in the Roman Republic, along with all the other women in our city state, is not significant. In fact, patrician women possessed less power than plebeian men. Women are not allowed to be citizens or vote in the assembly. The job of all women is to stay at home and take care of the household and/or children. That reminds me...I have two children, both boys, Romeo and Atticus.
My two sons, Romeo and Atticus, are the ages five and nine. Because they are descendants of my father and I, they are members of the patrician class and will hold government positions. Since Cecillia is an only child to her wealthy parents, she has provided the only grandchildren, who will one day inherit all the money and land owned by their grandparents/parents. In nine years, Atticus will be of the age to become a citizen and vote in the assembly, but Romeo has thirteen more years till that duty is valid. Until then, I am paying a highly educated slave to teach my precious sons the basic knowledge they must possess in order to take part in the Roman government.
