Entry #3 April 10, 508 BC
The last few months have been a rough time for my family and I. Romeo has developed lead poisoning from the aqueducts that carry our water over difficult landforms. These aqueducts are constructed out of substances containing lead in order to prevent leaks and stand as a strong structure that can support large sums of water. Unfortunately, these lead pipes can contaminate the water they carry and leave those who drink it with lead poisoning. Because of the lack of medicine, Romeo's odds of living are not looking good.
On the bright side, Atticus is developing a strong education which will lead to his success as a government official. In his last lesson, Atticus learned about the founding of Rome by two brothers Romulus and Remus. These brothers came from a wealthy family, but were abandoned at a young age and raised by a she-wolf. In the year 753 BCE, they founded the city of Rome, and Romulus killed Remus for the sole purpose of gaining leadership of the new city. Atticus's lesson the previous day revolved around the three government branches in our Roman Republic. The three branches include the executive branch, the judicial branch, and the legislative branch. One question he had was, "What branch does daddy belong to?" I answered him saying that I was in the legislative branch because it is made up of the senate. The executive branch consists of the two consuls, and the judicial branch consists of six judges.
