Sunset Duet
By Amy Giacomelli, 21st century
-composed of a sunset over a reflective pond and surrounding vegetation with two birds perched on tree branches
-the living creatures are edge line and negative space type shapes
-sky has dynamic and bending horizontal lines
-tree branches are thick lines but "branch" out out into thinner lines
Describe
-in this case the sky acts as a negative space
-the black shapes make the sky seem more vibrant
-eye first sees the birds but then sweeps across with the horizontal lines in the sky until it settles on the sun where it follows the two black shapes to the bottom corners of the painting
Analyze
This picture is communicating the phrase, "Enjoy the simple things in life." The artist makes everything black except the sky, accentuating the beauty of noticing the simple pleasures of life.
