The Mahabharata is an epic poem written in Sanskrit about a major battle against rival Aryan tribes for the Ganges region. It is known as one of the longest single poems and is considered by Hindus a text about dharma or moral law. It describes a civil war within the kingdom of Kurukshetra that involved the 5 ruling brothers, their cousins, and a desire to rule the kingdom. After an 18 day war the brothers win back their kingdom and restore peace.

The Ramayama is also an epic poem written in Sanskrit but is shorter than the Mahabarata. This poem is about the hero Rama, who does amazing things, to save his gorgeous wife, Sita, who was kidnapped by a demon-king named Ravana. This story is used as a model of behavior for others. For example Sita is the perfect example of an obedient and loyal wife in Aryan culture.
