The fourth and final region is the desert region. The desert region is wide area of dry land. The desert does not get very much rain. The plants and animals must adapt to the extreme conditions. Since most of the deserts in California are on the eastern side of the mountain region they separate the rest of California from the other states. In the desert tall peaks block some rainclouds. On the eastern side of the mountains not a lot of rain falls. In places like Death Valley some years it doesn't rain at all. Death Valley is the lowest land in California. It is 282 feet below sea level. Death Valley is in the Mojave Desert. The Mojave Desert is the largest desert in California. The land is mainly used for towns, mining, oil, natural gas.
