No entering the lower class we have merchants and artisans. Merchants collected goods from all over Mesoamerica and sold them in the market. Some of them became rich and used their wealth to build houses and to send their sons to school.

Last we have farmers and slaves. Farmers grew maize, beans, and other crops. They did not own land and were poor. They lived outside the capital in huts of mud and sticks. Most slaves were sold as laborers, nobles, and merchants and killed if they did not follow the rules.

Artisans were also rich because they made beautiful headdresses and gold jewelry that they sold for high prices. Some of the richest artisans lived in Tenochitlan while others lived outside the capital and weren't as rich.
