I think people that lived in my part of the country thought slavery was extremely crucial and wrong. They probably thought it was unneeded, at least most people. It had been portrayed by newspaper articles.

I think the fate of runaway slaves was a good thing to escape from all the evil things that the whites had done to them. I think they had a right too run away from their owners.
