1. Carbon dioxide-rich blood from the sir period vena cava and inferior vena cava enters the right atrium
2. Then it flows through the pulmonary artery into the lungs
3. In the lungs, the blood drops off carbon dioxide and picks up oxygen
4. Oxygen from the lungs flows into the left atrium through the pulmonary veins
