The festivities such as Ludi Magri which are celebrated with the chariot races in honor of Jupiter. Chariot races are dated back at least to the sixth century. It was quite popular among the Etruscans. Chariot racing is held in the circus. The oldest and longest circus in Rome is the Circus Maximus, built in a long valley stretching between two hills. Originally spectators sat on the hill slopes or either sides of the track. Eventually they developed a stadium-style building with central dividers starting gates at one end and an arch at the other to provide a comfortable viewing area.
