The Mayans had 40 cities that grew from 5000 to 50000 each. They grew and traded goods with each other. Their ruler was called a Pacal and he had a huge temple in his honor. They also had plazas for gatherings and terrace farming. Cities battled for land and power. Enemies were sacrificed for the gods.
