Transportation

During the 1850s most Texans continued to ride horses or in wagons but Texas did see improvements in transportation. Steamships were operated on the Rio Grande. In eastern Texas could travel up rivers. Many towns were served by stagecoaches. Railroad construction began in the 1850s.
