Tom moved to New York City. Tom made his first successful invention and it was the stock ticker. It was a machine that kept track of changing stock prices. Tom sold his invention for $40,000 in 1870 and he was 23 years old.
He had enough money to set up his own workshop. Tom was an unusual boss. He work hard and expected others to work harder. He didn't dress very well. He hired people to make him inventions.One of Tom's workers was named Mary. Tom and Mary fell in love.They got married on December 1871. Tom and Mary had three children. Their names were Marion, Thomas, and William. Tom gave two of his children nickname after the Morse code. Marion was Dot and Thomas was Dash. In 1876 they moved to Menlo park.
