In Depth: REGULATION of pH ~~
The Tiranha regulates its pH by the cells within the body releasing buffers to maintain the chemical balance within the Tiranha. Without buffers, acids and bases would drastically change the pH drastically and kill the Tiranha. Another way pH is regulated is through the respiratory and circulatory systems which help to filter and remove the carbonic acid and bring in more oxygen. This ties to another factor: exercise
In Depth: Regulation of Water~~
The Tiranha is exposed to both water and land. While in water, the cells are exposed to a hypertonic solution with more solvent (water) than solute. In order to regulate water balance, water diffuses through osmosis into the cell, causing them to swell. When the Tiranha is out of the water on land, the cells are in a hypertonic solution, with less solvent (water) than solute. So, the water diffuses out of the cell through osmosis to create an isotonic solution within the Tiranha. Osmosis ensures that the cells and areas around them are constantly at equilibrium so that the cells have adequate water, but at the same time ensuring they do not have too much, and the areas around have water as well.
