Tiranha stress factors continued......

pH BALANCE - As the Tiranhas cells produce waste from cellular activity, the pH balance of the blood is altered and could potentially be fatal if not regulated quickly . This is done by buffers that the Tiranha posses to balance its pH level throughout the body. The buffers are natural and get rid of the extra H+ or OH- ions in the body.

SHELTER - While in water, the tiranha uses the water plants hyacinths as protection. On land, the tiranha uses a den as shelter during the daytime to usually rest before or after hunts

TEMPERATURE BALANCE - While on land, the tiranha is an endotherm, and generates heat internally. While in the water, the tiranha is an ectotherm and uses the external heat to regulate its temperature. Their are many temperature changes in the rainforest. Regular temperatures range form 34-20 degrees celcius, and the Tiranha reacts to the temp changes in different ways on land and in water.
