Definition: duplication is a mutation where part of a chromosome or genetic material is duplicated, which results in multiple copies of that portion.
Example: MECP2 duplication syndrome is caused by an extra copy of genetic material in the X chromosome that spans the MECP2 gene and results in problems with learning and memory, control of the body, and seizures.
