ICD is sometimes caused by societal and cultural stereotypes of what to do, look like, or act(beauty, money, and materialistic expectations).

Some scientists believe that imbalances in brain structures such as the limbic system and the frontal lobe contribute to the development of ICD's.

Things that may pertain to ICD's are obesity, acne, and other physical traits that could lead to insecurities.

While there is always a cause for mental disorders, the causes of ICD's are not well known. The following are causes that some physicians believe lead to an impulse control disorder.
