Animal Kingdom: Mallard Duck

Common Name: Mallard Duck

Scientific Name: Anas Platyrhnchos

Description: The Mallard duck or "dabbling duck" breeds throughout the temperate and subtropical Americas. Males have green glossy heads and white wings and stomach, while females tend to have brown speckled plumage (as seen to the right). These ducks prefer calm shallow waters such as wetlands. They feed in the water by tipping forward and grazing on underwater plants ("dabbling").

Fun Fact: This duck is the most abundant and widely found duck on the planet!
