Common Name: Scottish Thistle


Scientific Name: Onopordum acanthium


Description:

The Scottish Thistle is native to Europe and Asia, and it is found at mid-latitudes across much of North America. It has thorns around the margin and stem, and can reach up to 8-10 feet. It tends to grow in disturbed areas-roadsides, ditches, and pastures. These plants bloom between July and October, but they can grow out of control and in some areas are considered to be an invasive weed.
