Scalp area (or new

growth) is generally softer in

texture than keratinized hair in

the midlengths and ends. Lifting

color occurs from 5-15 times fasterin the scalp area, in part because the heat from the scalp affects product activation.

More porous portions of the hair, usually found near the ends, have

less cuticle and absorb color faster.

Trichochromes

There is a sub-category to pheomelanin pigment in natural sandy-red hair calledtrichochromes.They are responsible for natural

“strawberry blonde” shades. They contain more red than yellow pigment, trichochromes make these shades more difficult to lighten to pale yellow.
