AU Honors Program is for those who seek to understand the issues of today. Students are given the task to work in groups that put in practice skills and knowledge in practice. Only 20 students are admitted each year and receive $30,000 merit scholarship. The Scholarship that is also included to this program is the Frederick Douglass Scholarship Program that only 5 students are selected each year and receive full tuition, on-campus housing and meal plans. The Scholarship is renewable for a total of four years of undergraduate study.This scholarship while focus in academics it looks for well rounded students.

AU Study abroad program had more than 135 offerings in 38 locations across 6 continents. 59% of students in AU participate in one or more than two semesters with alternative spring break or language programs. First year student are also offered the opportunity to Study Abroad through a First Year Academic Abroad. Some of the places that include AU are Middle East, Asia, Central/South America/Oceania/Africa/United Kingdom/Ireland and Europe.

Internships are also offered in AU which include advisors that help students gain experience through internships within the the Red Cross and the FBI headquarters located in the city.
