History Of The Collage
Penn State University was founded in February 22, 1855 by the General Assembly off the Commonwealth of Penn State as the Farmer’s High School of Penn State. In 1862, the school changed its name to Agricultural College of Pennsylvania. In 1863, the college was selected as a land-grant college. This means it was funded by the Morrill Acts. The act allowed Penn State to be granted land federally by the states. Penn State University focus during this time in teaching practical agriculture, science, military science, and engineering due to the Industrial revolution and changing class. This contrasted with how other colleges focus on liberal arts studies. In 1874, the college changed it name to Penn State University and due to it falling number decided to balance agricultural and classical studies. In 1953, the then President of Penn State, Milton S.E Eisenhower elevated Penn State to university status.
