History Of The Collage
After baptist missionary minister Luther Rice raise funds to purchase a site in Washington D.C to establish a collage he pushed for a collage to be established. In February 9, 1821 President James Monroe finally approved the congressional charter to start construction. The first commencement occurred in 1824 in which a number of dignitaries that included President Monroe and Henry Clay. In 1873, Columbia College became Columbia University. Then in 1904 Columbia University finally changed its name to George Washington University in memory of the first president of the United States. Most of the buildings in George Washington University stand out for their age and history. Columbia College founded in 1821 is the oldest unit in the university.
