*Emancipation: the freeing of slaves, with no payment to slaveholders.

*William Lloyd Garrison wanted immediate emancipation with no compromise for anything or anyone.

*Encouragement to fight for freedom instead of waiting around for owners to end slavery was popular during this  time.
