Who was Anubis
Anubis was the god of mummification, and mummification was considered to be the way to the afterlife. The Ancient Egyptians believed that you needed to preserve their body in order to hoard to the afterlife. They preserved their bodies and their hearts were weighed by Anubis. If their hearts were as light as a feather, they were permitted admission to the afterlife. If a heart was heavier than a feather by bad sins, their heart would be eaten by a crocodile looking monster.
