Legal issues relating to the workplace
Health and safety:
Work Health and Safety, previously known as Occupational health and Safety, can be a critically important legal system in place to protect the employee and employer from harm that may have been avoided in the case of injury. It is designed to make sure the adequate amount of workplace protection is in place. Workplace protection includes safe working practices and sufficient workers compensation in the event of injury or illness due to work. It outlines the obligations of an employer and employee and both of their rights.
Anti discrimination:
Anti discrimination laws are in place to provide equal opportunities for everyone and to create a safe and healthy working environment. People are discriminated against because of their; gender (including if they are transgender), if they are pregnant / have family, race, marital status, disability, sexual preference, age, who they are in a relationship with, and characteristics of people they associate with. Laws in place to stop this unfair treatment are; NSW Anti-Discrimination Act 1977, the Commonwealth Racial Discrimination Act 1975, Sex Discrimination Act 1984, Disability Discrimination Act 1992, Equal Opportunity for Women in the Workplace Act 1999 and Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission (HREOC) Act 1986.l
