Role of Unions & Employer associations

The role of trade union in a workplace is to unite in order to promote/defend wage rates and working conditions by common ideas and action taken against it. The number of people and their unity is what make trade unions so successful and vital. The main aims and objectives are to; Improve wages, provide job security (unfair dismissal), better working conditions (hours and leave), and to provide the best possible range of benefits for members. The downside to trade unions are the extremists who interfere with the law. Instead of stopping others business' (eg the builders labourers federations action in the 1970's to stop the demolition of historic buildings in the rocks area Sydney and established the 'green bans'. They have since been deregistered).
