The Cult of Domesticity

In the early 19th century, women faced limited options. These limited options restricted their activities after marriage and kept then home with their family. Housework and child care were considered the only proper activities for married women. This tradition was known as the cult of domesticity. When a women married her property and any money that she made became her husbands.
