There were many problems faced in the experiment though. Overall, there was a high morality rate with about 173 fish dead. During the experiment there was a thymine deficiency with high losses of fish during the swim up and early death syndrome. Factors that could have caused this were increases in pH, ammonia, nitrates, and nitrites in the tank. When problems arose though they were often corrected within a matter of days while ammonia levels were usually above the expected average.
