New Surgical Techniques

New Method Created

One new method of surgery on the battlefields of WWI was called débridement.

Débridement is the removal of damaged tissue or objects within the wound of an injured soldier.

The first method of débridement is the usage of sanitized maggots. The sanitized maggot would go inside the wound and clean the infection or object out of the wound.

Another way of performing débridement is anesthetic. The doctor would cut the wound of the injured soldiers with a sharp scalpel. This would allow the doctor to clean the wound and remove any object inside the wound.
