Early Life

Born: Hannah Senesh was born on July 17th, 1921 in Budapest, Hungary to Bela, an author and actor, and Katharine Senesh. She was raised Jewish. Her father died when she was very young, so she, her mother, and her brother Gyuri were very close.

Education: Hannah came from a very rich family, and her mother insisted on sending her to an expensive school, where she received a modern Hungarian education. Katharine convinced the head of the school to lower the tuition. Hannah had inherited her father's talent and passion for writing, and she started keeping a journal at age 13. During high school, Hannah was exposed to antisemitism, which is prejudice towards Jewish people. This is what inspired her to learn more about Judaism.
