Fredrick Douglass was a slave until 20, at which point he made a dramatic escape to freedom. After that he became a world renowned anti slavery activist. He wrote three books which shined a light onto how cruelly slaves were treated. After that he made many speeches about the life of a slave. He brought awareness to the issue of slavery. He was one of the most influential people at the time.
