Who Were the Pilgrims
--Pilgrims were a branch of radical puritans who wanted to purify the Anglican church
They believed that only visible saints should be able to attend church and they separated themselves from the angelical church
--The puritans enforced a strict moral code & practiced strict religion, lifestyle and conduct they were strong advocates of modestly

--The pilgrims negotiated with the Virginia company of London and secured the rights to settle at the Hudson river
--In 1620 the pilgrims set sail on the mayflower
--Upon arriving to Plymouth the pilgrims created the mayflower compact—a compact that laid the basic laws and social rules for the colony (first documents self government)
