TECHNOLOGY
This disparity in these interpretations again highlights the significant differences in the nature of control presented in each of the texts. It also serves to illuminate how technology is utilized as the nature of power increases; with an increase in control over humans, also come the regaining of control over man made technologies. Lang presents an almost juvenile idea that man cannot control their own creations, an idea clearly influenced by the fact that technology was relatively rudimentary compared to the types of technology that has been invented over time. Contrastingly, Orwell’s perspective reflects the ability for an absolutely totalitarian individual such as Big Brother is capable of controlling every aspect of society, leading to a completely different contextual interpretation than that of Langs.
