Another highlight of this year is the co-teaching that is taking place in our Algebra 1 sections. Every Algebra 1 section is being co-taught for the first time and students are benefitting greatly.
The Special Education team kicked off the start of school this year by planning Paly’s Professional Learning day in August in collaboration with our administrators. The day was focused on student engagement and Universal Design for Learning. Teachers were also provided accommodation paperwork for every student they teach with a 504 plan or IEP. Time was set aside for teachers to connect with case managers and guidance counselors in order to ask questions and learn more about these students prior to the first day of school. This was the first year we have been able to have this kind of connection prior to the start of school, and it helped tremendously to facilitate smoother transitions for students and teachers at the start of the year.

Our famous Rise and Grind Coffee Café that is located in the Media Arts Center kitchen and is run entirely by students with moderate-severe disabilities opened up again a few weeks ago, providing our staff with their necessary caffeine fix every Tuesday and Thursday morning during 2nd period. We also welcome parents to stop by anytime for a cup of coffee, tea, or health snack!
