Lee Harvey Oswald shot his 6.5x52mm Carcano Model 91/38 carbine three times at the president from the Texas School Book Depository. It was traced to him by photographs of him holding the rifle and a palm print found on the rifle. The first shot hit governor Connelly in the upper right back. The second bullet struck the president in the upper back and exited his throat right below the larynx. The same bullet also struck Connally below his right armpit, destroyed most of his right rib, and exited through his chest and struck him in both the right arm and left thigh where it remained lodged. The third fatal bullet hit Kennedy in the back of the head and sent bits of his skull and brain splattering throughout the inside of the car.
