Smiley Face - 1963
In Forrest Gump, the smiley face was basically just the muddy face of Gump. That obviously was not portrayed correctly, no one rubbed their face on a shirt and created the smiley face! Actually State Mutual Life Assurance companies' Vice President John Adam Jr. suggested that they should launch a friendship campaign. John asked employee Joy Young to develop some type of logo for the campaign. Joy started off with a little smile and was not pleased. He then added two eyes making the famous smiley face. Joy Young was only paid $240 for the entire campaign and never received any other profit.
