Mr. Gamefield was attempting to relieve the orphanage of Oliver. The failed attempt was victorious in the eyes of Oliver, seeing that the man did not take care of his workers. Working as a Chimney sweep was every dangerous and could lead to injury or even death. Children, being small were the best candidates to maneuver about a chimney. The insecurities of this work was of course ignored.
