1. The great majority of platforms sampled operated in ways that had little to do with sharing notwithstanding that they operate within what is termed as the Sharing Economy.


2.
Negative reciprocity was the most popular form of collaboration. Of these, 85 platforms operated through traditional purchase transactions (i.e good/service exchanged for money) while 18 platforms operated through rental arrangements. Pure barter or swap platforms were very rare (4 platforms).


3. Generalized reciprocity (or pure sharing) was operated by 20 platforms.
