Achievements

Panic of 1837- This was a financial crisis that lead to a major recession that lasted until the mid 1840's.profits, prices, and wages went down while unemployment went up. Since Jackson had closed the national banks, state banks were printing their own money, making people worry about whether or not what they had was worth anything.

Crisis with Great Britain- There was a small group in Canada that wanted independence from Britain. When they were unsuccessful, the Canadians went to America asking for help. Some people were willing to help, and supplied the Canadians with guns and supplies. Britain was angered when they heard, and told the Canadian loyalist to burn down the ship with supplies. They followed through, and in the act killed an American. In return, America burnt a British ship. In order to attempt keeping peace, Van Buren declared national neutrality that discourage any American citizen from taking part in these battles.
