Tribulations and Accomplishments
Tariff of Abominations- John Q. Adams strongly believed in the United States being a strong national entity, and believed that certain regions should specialize it certain goods. Because of this belief, Adams proposed to Congress the Tariff of 1828, designed to he industries in the north. It was later deemed the Tariff of Abominations because of the affects it had on the southern economy.
Foreign Affairs- John Quincy Adams worked more domestically during his time as president. While he did open up trade with various countries, that was about it. He did however take part in helping write the Monroe Doctrine when he served under President Monroe, and also helped negotiate the treaty for the War of 1812. He was also big in creating roads and canals, and during his presidency, the Erie Canal was opened.
