P. T. Barnum

-The WCTU formed in 1873 by women whose husbands were drunkards and beat their wives.

-They performed demonstrations outside of bars and saloons.

-The Sons of Temperance was founded in the early 1840's and was a Protestant order.

-They focused on mutual support for members on temperance as well as abolition.

-P. T. Barnum was an avid speaker who only served water at his shows, 'The Drunkard.' -He charged extra for the second act for going to a saloon or bar in between.
