Life under Slavery- Urban and Rural Slavery
-Urban
-Rural
-Urban slaves worked on ships, mills, carpenters, and as blacksmiths.
-Women and children worked the same jobs as men in Southern industries.
-Urban slaves did less physically 'exhausting' work and were clothed better and fed.
-Rural slaves mostly work on large plantations, working from sunrise to sunset.
-Rural slaves had more laborious tasks in the South such as picking cotton, and cleaning the cotton with the cotton gin.
-By 1850 most slaves lived in large plantations working amongst other slaves.
-Other slaves lived on small farms and worked with their owners.
