German Texans
Europe immigrants were attracted to Texas in the 1840's and 50's. By 1860 43,000 people lived in Texas that were born outside of the United States. The major part of these settlers were German. Some were in search of economic oppurtunities and others were seeking political and religious freedom. They came to Texas in "Adelsverein". Nobleman Hans was the leader of these German settlers. In Texas he dropped his leadership and changed his name to John Mausebach. He led 2,000 German settlers to New Braunfels.
