According to Ducksters.com,”The most important thing the Nile provided to the Ancient Egyptians was fertile land.” This is because most of Egypt is desert land, but the Nile’s waters provided rich soil around its edges, allowing crops to grow. Each year, when the Nile would flood, the water would spill over with water flowing down from the mountains to the South. The Nile flowed from South to the North, because the Nile flowed from the high mountains, making the current go North. The rich soil that was provided that allowed crops to grow, allowed the Egyptians to grow wheat, which was the main staple food of the Egyptians. They used the wheat to make bread, which they sold a lot of through the Middle East contributing to Egyptians becoming richer. They could also grow flax, which they turned into linen that was used a lot for clothes. Not just that, but they were also able to grow papyrus, which was grown alongside the Nile. This plant was used for several different things, such as paper, baskets, ropes, and sandals. Each year around September the Nile would overflow its banks and flood the surrounding area which brought rich black soil and renewed the farmlands.
