The Temperance Movement
-The Temperance movement was an effort to forbid the drinking of alcohol.
-It was influenced by the woman's rights movement and the church.
-In the 19th century, liquor was
everywhere; in everyday meals
and medical procedures.
-But Americans recognized the
dangers of drunkenness and
the American Temperance
Society was created.
-This caused a decline in the
consumption of alcohol that
lasted until the 1860's.
