The Cult of Domesticity
Women were demanded to restrict their activities to the home and family after marriage. The only proper activities for married women were homework and child care. Women who worked outside the home earned only half the amount of pay men received to do the same job. Women did not have the right to vote or be in a jury. Her property rights and money became her husband's after they were married. In addition, many married women had little guardianship rights over their children.
