Simple machines are very helpful because they can also change the direction or magnitude of the forces, which is making the work easier. The size of change is related to the strength that would be someone pushing or pulling an object.

A simple machine that has an inclined place requires the least amount of work because and you really have to do is put the object onto the plane. Then when you're finished with that, your work is done.

The amount of work output is never greater than the amount of work input, with or without the use of simple machines.
