Producers, Consumers, and Decomposers

Definition PRODUCER- A photosynthetic green plant or chemosynthetic bacterium, constituting the first trophic level in a food chain; an autotrophic organism.

Definition DECOMPOSER- any organism in a community, such as a bacterium or fungus, that breaks down dead tissue enabling the constituents to be recycled to the environment.

Definition CONSUMER- A heterotrophic organism that ingests other organisms or organic matter in a food chain.

Decrease in the Population-

If populations of producers declined:
The amount of food would majorly decline, and it would be hard for consumers to eat, and Decomposers to decompose.
If populations of decomposers declined:
Their would be a lot of waste due to plants, and the amount of decomposers left over wouldn't be able to keep up with the amount of waste.

If populations of consumers declined:
If the amount of consumers declined their wouldn't be enough consumers to eat the amount of food produced.
