-Pablo Picasso pioneered Cubism in the early 20th Century.
-Other artists include Georges Braque, Jean Metzinger, Albert Gleizes, Robert Delaunay, Henri Le Fauconnier, Fernand Léger and Juan Gris.
-Picasso's 1907 painting Les Demoiselles d'Avignon has often been considered a proto-Cubist work.
-By 1911 Picasso was recognized as the inventor of Cubism, while Braque was still considered an important player.
-Juan Gris came along later and coined the phrase Analytic Cubism.
-Picasso is known for his cubist portraits, strange shapes, and interpretations of people and objects.
