The variety of plants and animals found in Colombia is made possible by the various elevations and climates. The Andes has a rich plant population and is home to about 30,000 various species of plants. It is also home to a very distinct animal: the chinchilla.
The northern andes receives more rainfall than the south. This allows for plants and animals that can thrive in environments with more rain. One of these is the countries' leading agriculture product, the coffee bean. The crop receives a lot of sun and rain, with cooler climates at high altitude.
In contrast, the south allows for plants and animals that can survive in not so rainy conditions.
